Chevy Volt!!! launch it soon i cannt wait

Volt is an electric car that uses gas to create its own electricity. Plug it in, let it charge overnight, and it's ready to run on a pure electric charge for up to 40 miles emissions free. After that, Volt keeps going, even if you can't plug it in. Volt uses a range-extending gas generator that produces enough energy to power it for hundreds of miles on a single tank of gas.

Zero watch concept perfects the minimal timepiece

Unless you're a fan of high-tech jewelry, few things are as irksome as an overblown wristwatch design (we're looking at you Tokyoflash). While a binary timepiece will certainly up your geek cred, it's not very useful for providing at-a-glance information. Robert Dabi's Zero concept above, however, remains simple, beautiful, and amazingly enough, useful, all that same time. Practical too if he can coax a batch of round LCD displays into a production run. More pics and video after the break.

The blue elements in the image above appear to be a arranged in a continuous spiral, but in fact they form a series of concentric circles. Your brain will argue so strongly for a spiral that you may need to run your mouse cursor around the circles a few times to convince yourself.

Man Refuses Prize After Solving World's Most Complicated Math Problem

A reclusive genius, Dr. Grigori Perelman, famously solved one of the world's most complicated math problems, the one-hundred-year-old Poincaré conjecture, and is now refusing to accept a $1 million prize from the Clay Mathematics Institute for doing so!

The 44 year old man apparently prefers to live in St. Petersburg, Russia with his mom and sister, and has been given the nickname Mathsputin.

HA!

According to neighbors:

"He always wears the same tatty coat and trousers. He never cuts his nails or beard. When he walks he simply stares at the ground, rather than looking from side to side."

"I was once in his flat and I was astounded. He only has a table, a stool and a bed with a dirty mattress which was left by previous owners — alcoholics who sold the flat to him."

However, there's no denying this man is an effing genius! Perelman solved the Poincaré conjecture in 2002, and it took YEARS for experts to confirm he was correct!!

When reporters attempted to contact him, he responded, "You are disturbing me. I am picking mushrooms."

10% Of Microsoft Employees Use iPhones; But Hide Their Phones At Work

Perhaps one of the strongest indicators of the success of a product is how much the competition uses it.

The Wall Street Journal recently carried an interesting piece substantiating the fact where it noted the heavy usage of iPhones among Microsoft employees.

In the article, author Nick Wingfield notes that in the past one year, close to 10,000 Microsoft employees had accessed the company's employee email system via an iPhone. This equals 10% of Microsoft's global workforce. Redmond also has some high profile iPhone users on its rolls. J Allard; Microsoft's chief experience officer for the entertainment and devices division who is popular for his contributions towards the creation of the Xbox gaming console is known to be an avid iPhone user. Wingfield's report points out that iPhone users are pretty conspicuous in the cafeterias, lobbies and conference rooms of Microsoft's Seattle campus.

The widespread use of a rival platform has generated a lot of debate among Microsoft executives who see the trend not particularly helping the company, especially at a time when Microsoft is working to launch an improved mobile OS that can take on the likes of iPhone OS and Android.

While some executives see the use of an iPhone as a necessity to help employees study rival product features better, others like Kevin Turner, the COO at Microsoft disagree. In a clear signal of displeasure over the increasing use of iPhones, Microsoft modified its cellphone policy early last year to let only those employees using phones that run on Windows Phone to be eligible for reimbursement of service fees. While Redmond described this as merely a cost-cutting measure, observers note that the increasing use of iPhones among employees is a major factor behind the modification of the company's cellphone policy.

With Microsoft's much talked about Windows Phone 7 mobile OS launching in the latter half of this year, Microsoft would be hoping for the new platform to motivate iPhone lovers in the Redmond campus to finally let go of their iDevice. We wonder if that will ever happen. What do you think?

HTC EVO 4G is Sprint's Android-powered knight in superphone armor

There have been rumoring a WiMAX "HTC Supersonic" for a while now, the phone will be dubbed the HTC EVO 4G, will be released this Summer and it's easily the best specced phone we've ever witnessed. The hardware is of quite obvious HD2 descent, but with Android onboard and some nice aesthetic tweaks, the EVO 4G takes on a life of its own. The handset is centered around a 480 x 800 4.3-inch TFT LCD, with a Snapdragon QSD8650 1GHz processor under the hood (the CDMA version of the QSD8250 in the HD2 and Nexus One), and even a helpful 1GB of built-in memory and 512MB of RAM -- hello app storage! Even the battery is bigger than the HD2, and the camera is an 8 megapixel monstrosity with flash, that's capable of 720p video, and is augmented by a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for good measure. The phone features HDMI out (though you'll need an adapter for turning it into a TV-familiar HDMI plug), 802.11b/g WiFi, and an 8GB microSD card. There's that still-rare Android 2.1 underneath an updated version of HTC's Sense UI. But... despite all these wild features, what actually sets the EVO 4G apart is the fact that it's Sprint's first 4G phone. The handset runs a combo of EV-DO Rev. A and WiMAX, with calls still being made over CDMA and the EV-DO / WiMAX options for data. Interestingly, it sounds like concurrent data and voice use might be possible for the first time on CDMA carrier in this way (killing AT&T's well-advertised differentiator), though Sprint says that's still in the testing phase. One other new feature is the Sprint hotspot app, another MiFi-style connection sharing number, which is obviously aided greatly by the WiMAX on board and can support up to eight concurrent users. Follow after the break for our hands-on impressions and videos of the phone in action, including an up-close-and-personal test of the touchscreen keyboard. Below you'll find galleries of the phone by its lonesome and up against the Nexus One and iPhone 3G.

Google wants to kill iPhone: Steve Jobs

Apple-Google ties seem to be increasingly going downhill. The attacks by the two companies on each other are getting nastier. With Apple
co-founder Steve Jobs telling employees that Google wants to kill iPhone.

"We did not enter the search business," Jobs told Apple employees, according to an article in NewYork Times. "Make no mistake Google wants to kill the iPhone. We won't let them," said Jobs shortly after the public introduction of iPad.

The relationship between the two companies has been in rough weather for some time.

The recent introduction of Google's own handset Nexus One further jarred the relationship. Nexus One, which runs on Google's own mobile operating system Android, has put the company in direct competition with Apple.

Apple too this month sued Taiwan's HTC Corp, which makes touchscreen smartphones using Google software and introduced first Google phone. Apple has accused HTC of infringing 20 hardware and software patents related to the iPhone.

Even though the suit did not name Google as a defendant, Apple's move is viewed by many analysts as proxy for an attack on the Internet company.

Similarly, though for now, Google is the default search engine on Apple iPhone, there are speculations that Apple might go for Google's biggest foe Microsoft's Bing as the default search engine on its computing slate iPad.

The two companies are also said to have also fought over acquisitions. In November 2009, Google announced its $750 million acquisition of mobile advertising company AdMob. According to some reports, Apple too had made a $600 million bid for AdMob.

In January Apple acquired another mobile advertising firm, Quattro Wireless, for $300 million.

The growing straining of ties also lead to Google CEO Eric Schmidt resigning from Apple's board in August 2009

Lipstick that shows when women want sex goes on sale

Feeling shy to tell your partner that you are in the mood for sex? Well, your lip colour might just do the trick for you.A new lipstick has gone on sale that shows when women are in the mood for sex. In fact, the gloss changes from clear to deep crimson as the wearer feels frisky.

Invented in California, the Mood Swing Emotionally Activated Lip Gloss works by reacting with a girl's body chemistry. Priced at £12 each, the tube comes with a colour chart so men can work out how randy their partner is feeling.

"The colours change depending on your emotional state,” the Sun quoted a spokesman for makers Too Faced as saying. Celeb fans of the gloss include singer Katy Perry, engaged to randy funnyman Russell Brand.

Will this mouse get me kicked out of the coffee shop?

This [Dwight Shrute]-esque project will let you try out your taxidermy skills. Apparently you can acquire a ‘wetware’ mouse fresh or frozen from pet stores. We just need to wait until fall when our pantry is visited by the less-domesticated variety.

A travel-sized optical mouse acts as the replacement guts. Some creative dremeling brings the plastic housing down to a more acceptable shape. The furry bits need to be processed using the mouse taxidermy guide before they are fit over the electronics. What you end up with is a creepy peripheral that nobody wants to use.

The most awesome iPhone stand ever made out of cutlery

That headline is probably a bit of an overstatement, since this is probably the only iPhone stand made out of cutlery. ForkedUpArt of North Salt Lake, Utah, is actually selling two different stands. ForkHead, who you see standing at attention at your right, and SpoonHead, ForkHead's smarter brother.

Sold through our favorite iPhone accessory store, Etsy.com, the ForkedUpArt iPhone stands can be customized if you want, and according to the artist, "I'm making these guys as fast as I can."

How much will one of these unique items put you back? About US$20, plus shipping. That's less expensive than some of the fancy-schmancy stands you can buy through more traditional sources, and let's face it -- these stands are really cool.

Inventor of the cell phone gave up his iPhone for a Motorola Droid

As if Android needed yet another endorsement, it turns out that Martin Cooper -- the inventor of the cellular telephone who pretty much is responsible for all of us being here at this fine Web site today -- is the proud owner of ... wait for it ... a Motorola Droid.

Cooper did a piece on C-SPAN last week where he talked (a lot!) about spectrum and the politics thereof (it's clunky, but well done), as well as the argument that cell phones might cause cancer (show him some proof). The talk about his weapon of choice comes a little after the 30-minute mark. When asked about his daily driver he replied:

"Depends when you ask me. I always have the latest cell phone, and I try every cell phone out, only because people like you keep asking me. Right now I'm using the Droid, because I want to get some experience with the Android operating system, and I, so far, have some favorable results."

Turns out he used to have an iPhone, which he gave to his grandson. He uses a feature phone for his day-to-day calls, he said, but turns to the Droid when it's time to do some real work -- like tweeting. Yes, the 81-year-old inventor of the cell phone is on Twitter. He's @MartyMobile, so be sure to follow him. And be sure to tell him AndroidCentral sent you. [C-SPAN] Thanks, @ikagirl, for the tip!

Nokia Files Patent For Self-Charging Smartphone That Never Needs To Be Charged!?.......Is it Possible

Small, battery-powered gadgets make powerful computing portable but unfortunately, there's still a continual need to recharge the batteries of phones and other gadgets by hooking them up to a tangle of wires.

Fortunately the latest technology trends proposed a way to cut the cords by wirelessly supplying power to devices and Nokia researchers have developed a new technique for powering mobile devices that could draw enough power from ambient radio waves or kinetic energy to keep a smartphone topped up.

Internet on your TV with Tata Indicom DIALOG

Tata Teleservices has launched DIALOG, a unique product that can convert your mundane TV into a full-fledged Internet device.

The DIALOG kit includes a set top box that connects to your TV directly and enables it with browser and photo viewing abilities. This set top box also has USB ports (four, actually) so you can plug in your pen drives and watch videos and listen to movies right on your TV screen. The USB port can be used to plug in a Tata Photon Plus EVDO modem, thereby bring Internet access to your TV.

The DIALOG will be available in two options - with Photon Whiz at Rs. 6,699 and Rs.7,699 with Photon Plus. As of now, the service is restricted only to the Chennai and the Kolkata circles. It will see a gradual roll out across India in the months to come. Apparently, the current service is in the Test Run period and this would continue for the next three months.

The Tata DIALOG could turn out to be the easiest way to go online since computer penetration remains low across India. The Television, on the other hand, has sizable presence across the country and for this very reason; this could prove instrumental in bringing the Internet to the masses. One thing that might detract people from using this is the relatively high price for the set top box and the usage. At the aforementioned prices of Rs. 6,699 and Rs. 7,699, this certainly isn't for the villages. Once it goes down considerably on the price ladder, the DIALOG could be the solution to India's low Internet penetration issues

Fake Tree Vortex Threatens To Stuck In Entir Backyard

Here's something architects don't normally flat out admit about their designs: "I wanted someone to barf when they look at it." That's Berkeley-based Thom Faulders, obviously on the warped work above. Deformscape was created in the backyard of Apple exec Jeff Dauber's Potrero Hill home. The wall and floor planes are actually entirely flat and perpendicular, and the tree vortex is an illusion created by the sloping lines. Fun! Incidentally, Faulders did pretty much the same thing to the inside of Dauber's house, dubbed Deform House

Don’t Play With Your Food!

Normally, if you’re a healthy, red-blooded cheetah, a nice juicy impala is the “runs really fast and goes ‘boing!’ ” part of this good-for-you breakfast. But what if you’re not very hungry at the moment? Then he’s your new playmate!

That’s what photographer Michel Denis-Huot discovered in these amazing shots for the Daily Mail. Already tired from hunting, the cheetahs patted and nuzzled the impala for about 15 minutes…

… and, even more amazingly, the impala nuzzled back …

… before remembering that it was food and scampering away.

Weightlifting ant

An amazing image of an ant lifting 100 times its body weight has won first prize in a science photography contest.
The image shows an Asian weaver ant hanging upside down on a glass-like surface and holding a 500mg (0.02oz) weight in its jaws.
It was taken by zoology specialist Dr Thomas Endlein of Cambridge University as he researched insects' sticky feet.
Dr Endlein won £700 in photographic vouchers from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.
The research shows how ants change the size and shape of the pads on their feet to enable them to carry heavier loads.
He hopes it could help scientists develop better glues.
"The pads on ants' feet are self-cleaning and can stick to almost any type of surface," he said.
"No man-made glue or adhesive system can match this. Understanding how animals can control their adhesive systems should help us come up with clever adhesives in the future."

Zero Rupee Note to give as Bribe....Don`t u guys think its cool

Zero rupee note that Indians can slip to corrupt officials demanding bribe. An Indian U of Maryland physics prof came up with these zero rupee notes. They've been wildly successful, with a total run over over 1,000,000 notes, and the reports from the field suggest that they shock grafters into honesty. Fifth Pillar is the NGO that produces the notes, and they're available for download in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

Doctors implant tooth into eye, restore sight, creep everyone out

Wierd But it Works
Osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis. It is a real procedure that really does revive people's ability to see, yet we get the feeling that people will be more, um, excited about how it's done than why it's done. The seemingly Mary Shelley-inspired doctors extract a tooth from a blind person and drill a hole through it, where a prosthetic lens is placed, and the resulting macabre construction is implanted into the blind person's eye. The tooth is necessary as the body would reject an artificial base. It's not at all pretty, and it cannot repair every type of blindness, but it's still a major step forward.Sharron Thornton, the first American to have undergone the procedure.

Guy appended Boat Tail to Car, Increases MPG by 15.1%

Darin Cosgrove has increased the fuel efficiency of his car by 15.1% by adding a homemade boat tail made from cardboard, aluminum and duct tape to the vehicle.

This isnot the first mod he has made to the '98 Pontiac Firefly (that's Canadian for Geo Metro)--Cosgrove is the founder of the hypermilling site EcoModder.com. This particular addition extended the car's back end by 4.5 feet. In fact, Cosgrove figures with all of the modifications he's made that he's actually cut the car's drag coefficient from 0.34 to 0.23.
He says "I've driven with the tail on for about 300 km in total, mostly at highway speeds up to 100 km/h," Cosgrove told Wired. "I didn't notice any change in handling. The only effect on driving is I have to watch out for rubberneckers in other cars. Seriously."

The boat tail mod took him about 14 hours to complete. He's been so impressed by the results that he's already planning a more durable version.

"That 15 percent is just from the tail: multiple bi-directional averaged runs at exactly 90 km/h (56 mph) on a straight and level road, absent other traffic," Cosgrove said. "The tail was removed and reinstalled during the test so the 'A-B-A' comparisons could be made in identical conditions."

It's doubtful you'll see this on a production model anytime soon, if ever. Still...it's another wicked use for duct tape.
